About this Class

Since 2020, there have been more than 82.4 million people displaced around the world. With the Refugees Welcome: Refuge Canada Speaker Series, we invite you to listen and learn more about the Global Refugee Crisis. We encourage you to become a part of the conversation. The Speaker Series is a three-part virtual series designed to educate the community on the Global Refugee Crisis. Session 2: Houssam Alloum & Instructor Art is a powerful tool. Use it to express yourself or to share a message calling for change. This session will feature local artist, Houssam Alloum. Houssam will reflect on how art has been a part of his journey as a refugee. Following Houssam’s talk, an art instructor will help audience members create an art piece that they can use to explore and share expressions of social justice. Sessions are online and may end before 9 pm. There is no cost to the event, but we encourage people attending to make a donation to an organization that supports refugees.
