Join us on Saturday, July 12 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the MacLachlan Woodworking Museum for a unique paddle board workshop led by Mohawk paddle boarder Natasha Darling. This hands-on program invites participants of all ages and abilities to explore local waters through both Indigenous knowledge and scientific inquiry. We’ll begin on land by testing the water using Water Rangers freshwater kits, measuring temperature, pH, chlorine, dissolved oxygen, and more. After covering paddle board safety and basic skills, we’ll head out on the water to explore the bay. As we paddle, Natasha will guide us in observing turtles, swans, herons, and other relations while sharing Mohawk language and teachings that help deepen our connection to the environment. The workshop is open to all ages. Children may paddle with a parent on the same board. Anyone paddling solo must have basic swimming skills. All equipment—including paddle boards and safety gear—is provided. Space is limited to 10 spots. If you are sharing a board with a child, please only reserve one spot. A $10 deposit is required to register and will be refunded after the workshop or with at least 24 hours’ notice of cancellation. If you can’t attend, please contact Dakotah Brady at dbrady@cityofkingston.ca. Insurance waivers will be signed on-site on the day of the program. In the event of poor weather, we will notify all participants 24 hours in advance if the workshop needs to be moved to the rain/wind date of Saturday, July 19.
