Discover the versatility of beeswax during this hands-on morning of creativity at the PumpHouse Museum. Learn the traditional art of candle making with local beekeeper Brendan Goff, President of the Limestone Beekeepers' Guild, who will guide participants in creating a hand-dipped beeswax candle. Starting with a simple wick, you'll repeatedly dip it into warm beeswax, building layer upon layer until your candle takes shape. Candle dipping will take place outdoors rain or shine, with a tent to keep participants comfortable. Inside the Education Hive, generously sponsored by the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, participants can continue exploring the many uses of beeswax through a variety of hands-on activities. Gillian Goff, a teacher at Mulberry Waldorf School, will begin each beeswax modeling session with a short story before demonstrating how to create unique figures. Sessions will run three times an hour, lasting approximately 15 minutes with a five-minute reset between each. While waiting for the next modeling session, participants are invited to visit the origami bee station and create their own folded bee to take home. Guests will also have the opportunity to view a live observation hive, offering a glimpse into the lives of honeybees and the incredible work they do. All ages are welcome! Adult assistance is strongly recommended for children under 9 participating in the candle dipping activity.
